Manerd was just chilling with his nerd friends playing tabletop Humans & Households when reports came in of a filthy pestilence of plagued cat invasion in the west. These unruly undead felines were spreading t. gondii and all other sorts of cat diseases all over the countryside, so being a responsible nerd leader and more of a dog person anyway, he initiated a campaign to cleanse the domain of these pests. A nearby sphinx temple provided said campaign a much needed jumpstart, granting the legions of nerd apprentices the ability to stun their foes with their fancy pansy rainbow fairy fire. Using these powers cleaning up nearby dungeons became fairly trivial, and soon a floating army of heroes and elite stunner(d)s was established, allowing for superior mobility in comparison to the approaching swarm of double-vampiric cats. At the same time, attempted guerilla strikes with some wisps and phantom warriors inflicted only minor damage. After some back-and forth and small skirmishes, the necromantic furball-coughing swarm soon reached the river separating the domain from the blightlands in the middle, so Manerd set up a blockade at the bridges, knowing the enemy would most likely not risk embarking and facing the floaters on water in a disadvatageos position. The purpose of this blockade was to buy time for summoning more node serpents until the eventual grand battle. Even the nearby forts and cities were ordered to send their guards to join this last stand against the darkness, leaving them defenseless. With the people complaining they can't get any sleep due to the constant nightly meowing echoing from the west, Manerd was under severe political pressure to order the final strike, and with four full armies of nerds, serpents and various dungeon recruits and a friendly neighbourhood bear, the attack was initiated. The attack was a great success, and soon after the enemy capitulated. -- Getting school of enchantment with a sphinx temple so soon (like turn 13 iirc) was key in this game for me, allowing me to clear harder sites with apprentices. Xlnt on the other hand reported having a bad map, and indeed his side of the map did look pretty lame. There was a lot of guerilla activity and skirmishes, but eventually the game boiled down to our armies of 4 stacks each meeting in the middle, Xlnt's army consisting mainly of ghoul sun guards with greater life steal. I attacked with 4 stacks to get a 4vs3, suffered minimal losses, and the game was pretty much over. Xlnt did take full benefit of me leaving my forts and cities lightly defended or empty, burning lots of forts and briefly capturing my 2nd city. Always a very skilled opponent, one that I would very much like to play again, especially since I always seem to get a bit lucky against him :p

These days I would classify myself as intermediate, but anyone can get lucky:
-elves, +1 res
-sorc leader, +1 res
-site nearby (runestone iirc) giving strong will to next battle
-rialto as first hero
-site with almost all units doing magic dmg, half of it spirit
Didn't take a tactical genious to beat that one. :p
